Prof. Karen Fleming honored with Diversity Recognition Award!

Karen Fleming, Professor, Department of Biophysics and Dominic Scalise (Whiting School of Engineering) were honored last week with the Diversity Recognition Award. Granted by the university’s Diversity Leadership Council at their annual awards ceremony, the awards recognize exceptional contributions across all nine divisions to furthering diversity and inclusion at the institution.

Karen Fleming and Dominic Scalise won a Group Award for producing the exhibit and online resource Women of Hopkins. Their exhibit highlights the trailblazing Hopkins women whose contributions to science, art, medicine, business, the humanities, and other fields have made the world a better place. Karen and Dominic created an exhibit that is diverse and inclusive in many respects, featuring women from a variety of academic disciplines, Hopkins divisions, and ethnic and cultural backgrounds. When it launched, many people across Johns Hopkins came together to celebrate the legacies of these innovative women, and the display remains on campus to serve as inspiration for the Homewood community.
